Qld: Video store robbery thwarted

A man who tried to rob a video store on Queensland's Gold Coast overnight has been
arrested by police after the store manager and customers overpowered him.

Police say the man armed with a knife was discovered by the manager in the office of
the store at Ashmore Plaza at 6pm (AEST).

The two men began to struggle, but customers came to the assistance of the manager
and the man was restrained until police arrived.

Police say a 35-year-old man from Southport will appear in the Southport Magistrates
Court today charged with armed robbery and wilful damage to a plate glass window.
